Completion of Year 12 is traditionally a time of celebration for students across the state, and many take the opportunity to head off with friends to various 'Schoolies' locations for a well-deserved break.
The Queensland Government runs the Gold Coast Schoolies Community Safety Response from Saturday 17 November to Friday 23 November, 2018.
The Response is supported by numerous government agencies, local council and community partners to provide diversionary activities, support services and safety initiatives to help young people stay safe during end-of-school celebrations and to minimise potential impacts of these gatherings on the local community.
On the Gold Coast, diversionary activities include the operation of the all-ages drug and alcohol-free Schoolies Hub on Surfers Paradise beach, exclusive to 2018 Year 12 school leavers.
For more information on the Response, please visit schoolies.qld.gov.au.
Temporary road closures
Due to the temporary population increase in central Surfers Paradise during the Schoolies holiday period, road closures are needed to ensure the safety of all pedestrians. Other road closures may be implemented by Queensland Police Service as required.
